Made for the mud

After running the 2012 Nike Women’s half marathon (and finishing it) for Team Paul MitchelI, I realized there are A LOT of different ways to stay fit… And my new favorite… MUD RUNS.

Over the weekend I competed in the Merrell Down and Dirty mud run (again for Team Paul Mitchell) and it was such a blast. For those that aren’t familiar with mud runs, it’s basically a military style training course that requires you to scale walls, climb cargo nets and of course… Slip, slide and crawl through the mud.

Me and my running buddies, which I will affectionately refer to as my ‘traveling half sisters'(13.1 We don’t go all the way;) decided to do the 5k run… 3.5 miles… And thank GOD we didn’t do the 10k because running in the mud kicks your ass. Not only is it really hard because the mud weighs you down but there is something very unnatural about getting so dirty. Think about it. You spend your whole life trying to stay clean and now we are paying to get filthy?!

We sort of tip toed through the first mud pit (which stunk btw) and right away one of my THS temporarily lost her shoe and another just fell right in. It was at that point that we decided to embrace the muck and just enjoy the experience.

By the end of the run we were COVERED in mud and laughing hysterically… In fact, I may have knocked a screw loose because my next adventure is the Men’s Health Urbanathlon in San Francisco. Watch out boys… Tough and sexy is a dangerous combination ;). If any of you Skinny Bitches want to join me for the Urbanathlon, you can sign up at http://www.menshealthurbanathlon.com
